Lyndon Riggall is taking over the reins of the EduTweetOz Twitter account for book week. Here is a little more about him.
Please tell us a little about yourself. What is your current role and what does it involve?
I’m a writer from Tasmania who served as judge for the 2013 Children’s Book Council of Australia awards.
What do you plan to talk about on Edutweetoz this week?
Book Week! We’ll talk about children’s books, this year’s awards, literature, and how you might be able to use it in the classroom.
Who are your teaching role models and why?
Anyone with an infectious passion for their field. I’ve been so lucky to have had some teachers who got me hooked on the things they loved.
What issues do you think are most pressing for teachers today?
It’s tougher than ever to be the most interesting thing in the room. Kids are built to be distracted, and it seems to me like teachers are fighting harder and harder for their attention
What are your hopes for education in the next 10 years?
I’d love to see a surge in enthusiasm from students, and I’d like to see teachers have more space to play to their strengths. On a personal level, I’d like to see some great books published. Great material is the key to literacy.
